In the first ten years of his engineering career Joe spent a great deal of time in the design, implementation, troubleshooting and project management of highly automated process controls systems in the Food and Pharmaceutical industry. Upon completion of his MBA from University of Chicago, Joe's biopharm experience expanded into consulting services. He spent five years in the life sciences management consulting practice of Ernst & Young where he acquired certification in SAP Production Planning. At EY, he managed SAP projects for clients Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly and Monsanto. At EY he was part of the advisory team in the launch of Celebrex for GD Searle. He also led EY's first ERP validation engagement.
Joe went on serve as VP of Life Sciences for a leading integrated design/build architecture and engineering firm. Here he learned the economic value of the design/build method. He was responsible for the profit and loss (P&L) of the life science practice and successfully expanded its presence into the San Francisco and Los Angeles regions with new clients Watson, Allergan and Genentech. During this time, Joe was elected to serve on the University of Illinois Alumni Association (UIAA) Board of Directors and, later, the Illinois Institute of Technology Alumni Association. Joe served a combined 13 years on both boards. His contributions included the development of a business plan to UIAA on the implementation of a CRM solution to increase major donor targets and overall alumni engagement.
As head of critical systems, Joe dealt directly with FDA during a facility shutdown that led to consent decree. From this experience, he ensures quality is built into any design that is part of his project through the use of such tools as the ISPE Baseline Guides as well as ASTM and ISO principles. He is a member of the Project Management Institute and an active ISPE member as founder of the University of Illinois Chicago student chapter.
